Only after George told me about the impact her spoken word prose poetry had had on her audience I decided to not put the words to music, as was my initial plan, but to re-create this experience and enhance it with music. Subjected to the finished product our beta listener, George’s sister Sonja, a graphic artist, said:
“Hearing and listening to Aarde I experienced a resonance where the spoken content and the supporting music go together, in my lower abdomen (root chakra) specifically, as a scale of deep bass tones able to encompass the immeasurable space in the same moment. By this I mean it suddenly appeared to me we are here with the Earth to be able to fathom height and depth, by being able to measure them from the ground, the scale, and thus attain a greater awareness of who we are ourselves.
The Ground that is Earth allows us to know ourselves as infinity in immeasurability, by the scale she is/gives. The deep tones have shown me the existence of this scale, even in my body.
It's also a creational image: the primordial beginning, the birth of man, the light, life, destiny, the sun, the darkness and death. Originating in a grand image it reflects growth, bloom, and perishing, with different moods and turns. Quite beautiful the exquisite end rings like the onset once again – the co-creation of Man and Earth in living word and sound.
The whole resounds the mystery of who we are as human beings in connection with the Earth Being.
To me it offers answers and with that it has a healing effect on me. This healing effect lies in me suddenly understanding the deeper sense of this Earth element and saying yes to it, because it resonates deep within my body.”
May this spoken word experience have a similar effect on you.
